Holding The Fort is a series of twenty 8"x20" photographs of historic forts in Eastern Canada, started in 2006, still in progress. Eighteen of the images, with accompanying poems, were exhibited in two canvas tents as part of The Encampment at Fort York National Historic Site, Toronto, in conjunction with the 2012 Luminato Festival.

The series was shown in its entirety in 2013 for No Boundary Changes: 1813-2013, curated by Lydia Burggraaf, at Thames Art Gallery in Chatham, Ontario, as part of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration of The Battle Of The Thames. I also published the poems in two chapbooks: Holding The Fort - John Vincent Poems, and Holding The Fort - Ralph Henry Bruyeres Poems, to accompany the exhibition.

Three of the photo/poem pieces were part of the exhibition Art Builds at Gallery 1313 in Toronto in January 2014, curated by Phil Anderson.

I was captured on video reading two excerpts of the Ralph Henry Bruyeres poems at the London (Ontario) Poetry Open Mic Night, of April 16, 2014 (opens YouTube in a new window)

More information and excerpts of poems from Holding The Fort are available on this website in Writing - Holding The Fort.
